Where I find God #31

Here’s another one from Wendy C. – Thanks Wendy!

Where do I find God?  WITH MY FRIENDS!

This is me and one of my oldest and dearest friends, Jessica on the left.  The photo on the right is me with my daughter and Jessica’s daughter.  The reason I see God with them stems from many years of healing from the tragic death of my mother, which caused Jessica and I to lose touch for many years!  When Jessica and I reunited last year, we picked up like we never missed a beat.  We met up with each other in Birmingham with our daughters for a girls’ weekend out and caught up on the past umpteen years that had gone by.  We found out that both of us had been searching for each other for years, and had shed many tears over missing each other.

When she and I reunited, we were amazed at the similarities of our lives even after all these years.  Our birthday is two days apart.  Our daughters are the same age only being a couple of months apart.  We have the same beliefs about God, love, life, friendship, and family!  We even use the same toothbrush and deodorant!  LOL!

I know that some of those things seems silly for an adult to even mention, but you have to understand that we were kept away from each other during the most important years of our lives through the latter part of middle school and high school… then on into adulthood until now!  I can’t begin to tell you how much I’ve missed her!

Now that she and I have reunited, we are determined to see each other as much as possible considering that she lives in North Florida, and I in Tennessee.  We’ve had our weekend in Birmingham, and she has flown to TN recently to spend the weekend.  We have plans to meet up in New York next month, and then my family will be spending a week with her in Florida this July.  She is my dearest friend, but more importantly she is my family… my sister… my kindred spirit… my God sent friend!  We want the same memories of friendship for our daughters as we have!  And God knew EXACTLY what He was doing when He brought her back into my life!  We have many years of catching up to do, and many years of making new memories, both for us and our daughters!

Great post!  Thanks Wendy!

Where I find God #30

Guest post: Valerie

Every time I look at my son, I see a perfect creation from God.  His beautiful and thoughtful blue eyes.  His tiny and perfect little hands.  His chubby legs.  His infectious laugh.  We were not able to conceive and give birth, but God still brought us the perfect baby boy to fill our lives with more love than we thought possible.  There is not a day that goes by, even the whiniest days full of independent toddler assertiveness, where I am not thankful to God for our beautiful son.

So I went out to grab some pizzas last night and realized that I didn’t have anything prepared for today’s WIFG.

And then I looked up and saw this.  Problem solved.  Thanks God.

Here’s another one from Wendy C.

Just thought I’d share another photo with you if you’d like to use it.  There isn’t a heart-felt story to go along with this shot other than what I feel when I am outdoors with my camera.  I really can’t describe to you what I feel when I capture things like this.  Sometimes I actually forget to push the shutter button because I am standing in awe at what is before me.  Last June we had a spectacular lightning storm here in Tennessee.  It was the kind of lightning storm where most people would run for cover and pray that they didn’t get struck even inside their homes.  But not me!!  I’m standing out in the middle of an empty field with my camera on a tripod just hoping to catch a sky full of lightning bolts!  I was lucky because God gave me the lightning without the rain.  So I was able to shoot and not worry about my gear getting soaked!  But I absolutely love how the sky turned purple and was very beautiful when the lighting lit it up.  How can anyone deny God’s power or existence?

Thanks Wendy!  Keep them coming!

Snow.  I know it’s a 4 letter word to a large portion of the world, especially in parts of the U.S. where it’s wreaking havoc right now.  But where I live we don’t get snow very often.  If we get an inch, it’s a big deal.  Three inches and the National Guard gets put on stand by.  I say that with tounge in cheek but sadly it’s not far from the truth.  This past Thursday and Friday we got anywhere from 9 to 11 inches of snow and it was absolutely amazing.  I had to grab my camera and take a walk on the trails near my house.  It was so quiet, peaceful and beautiful.

This next pic, it’s hard to see due to my lacking zoom but there’s a red tailed hawk sitting in the trees.  Note to self:  Save up for a new zoom.

Today’s WIFG is brought to you by Mitch & Missy.

“Mitch took the below picture when we were in Disney World and he didn’t notice the little lizard on the pumpkin until he put them on his computer. It is one of my favorite shots from our trip- a good reminder that amongst all of the man-made wonder of Disney, God still does it best :-)WIFG #26

Thanks for sending in the pic!

Where I find God #25

Using our gifts.

Today’s entry/picture is courtesy of Wendy C.WIFG#25

I’m a believer that God gives certain gifts to everyone. My gifts happen to be great looks, great personality, great sense of humor and just an overall general awesomeness. ; ).

Wendy is a photographer. It’s one of her gifts and it’s when she’s using that gift that she feels closest to God.

Can it really be that simple?    YES!    That’s kind of the whole purpose of this website. You don’t have to search far and wide for God.  Like I’ve tried to show in earlier posts, He can be found all over in everyday ordinary life. And, as in Wendy’s case, He can be found when using the gift He’s given you.

I think some people have a hard time understanding that.  They mistakenly think that in order to feel close to God that you have to be on a mission trip in Africa, feeding the homeless or teaching a Bible Study.  And while all of those things are great and will undoubtedly make you feel closer to God, I think that you can connect with God on a whole new level when you are using the gifts that He gave you, especially when using in a way that is pleasing to Him.  For some of you that might be serving in a homeless shelter but for others it can be writing, running, painting, sculpting, rocking your child to sleep or in Wendy’s case – Photography.

Wendy feels closest to God when she’s out exploring His world thru the lens of her camera.  I can only imagine how close she must feel when she’s using her gift and snapping pictures of something beautiful that God created, like the above waterfall.  Ahh, if only we could all know the experience of a double shot of God.

Thanks Wendy!  Keep the pictures coming!

So what are your gifts? Where do you find God?

Spiders.

I know, most people hate ‘em but what they do with their webs is amazing.

In the first pic, the spider has built his web right outside his front door.  That’s him sitting in that hole in the tree, waiting for dinner.

The second pic is the more traditional web most are used to seeing.  Both are really incredible.

Don’t feel sorry for the bug.  Either he was too big to mess with or wasn’t on the spider’s diet because he was cut loose to live another day.

Say what you want but spiders are absolutely amazing.

Where I find God #22

WIFG – By Chrissa

WIFG #22

I’ve been on campus a lot this summer going to class.  The first time around in school I despised going to class and even being on campus.  I didn’t like college, didn’t know what I wanted to do and really just took whatever classes sounded interesting until my husband graduated, which gave me an excuse to stop going.

About a year ago I finally admitted to myself and a friend that I felt the nudge to go back to school.  I have said many times that I would never, ever go back to school so when I mentioned this to my husband he was quite taken aback and really dismissed it…until I registered for classes.  Now a year later, I have only 4 short months until graduation.  I will graduate 1 ½ years sooner than I originally thought was possible.

Anyway, this summer I really began to appreciate campus.  I had to walk about 10 minutes from my car to class, which at first irritated me.  As the semester progressed I began to enjoy it more and more.  There are some really tame squirrels on campus and I enjoyed seeing them every morning and afternoon as I walked.  Some days it was really hot, but there are lots of trees to give me shade.  It just became enjoyable.

I began to use that time as I walked to class in the morning as a time where I talked to God.  I thanked Him for the beautiful sights and sounds around me and the opportunity to go back to school.  Every day I just thanked Him for everything that came to mind.  This place that I had despised so much has become a place that I’m going to miss now that my class is finished.

So, where do I find God?  Oddly enough for me, on campus…in the squirrels, the trees, grass  and flowers, the blue sky, the breeze, the birds and even the people around me who I don’t even know.   I also see God in my endeavor to return to school.  I obeyed and He has led me and made a path for me every step of the way.   I’m going to have to find some other time in my day to give thanks.  I believe that the more I expressed my thanks, the more I became aware of all of the things I have to be thankful for!
